Therapy
Answering your questions on what it's like to work with me!
The Basics
Currently I am only offering virtual appointments. I use a HIPAA-protected secure video platform. I am licensed as a LCSW and LCAS in the state of North Carolina and can see anyone in the state.
I provide individual therapy for adults. I am happy to offer referrals if you are under 20 or looking for couples therapy.
I see clients Mondays through Thursdays between 11am-7pm.
When starting out, I generally recommend meeting weekly so we can build rapport and momentum for your progress. After 4-6 weekly sessions, we can continue to meet weekly or every other week depending on what is most therapeutically beneficial for you.
Specialties
I mainly work with anxiety, trauma, and family of origin issues. Other components I work with include depression, relationship issues, religious trauma, ADHD, grief, stress, life transitions, concerns with substance use or behavioral addictions, body image, and issues around self-esteem and self-worth.
I am unable to effectively work with folks who are in active addiction, active eating disorders, active suicidal ideation, or active psychosis. If you are currently experiencing any of these, please call or text 988 for resources and support.
How I Work
As a therapist, I view myself as a guide along your journey. I walk alongside you helping to remove the mental obstacles, point out and forge new paths, and cheer you on along the way.
I like to be a collaborative and an active partner in the therapeutic work. I use a blend of my clinical expertise, evidence-based education and trainings, and personal experience to offer what is most helpful to you as an individual. This could mean practical what-to-do skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), deeper inner-child healing guided by Internal Family Systems (IFS), or both! There's usually a lot of metaphors and some humor along the way.
My primary modality used in therapy is Internal Family Systems (IFS). This is a therapy that focuses on building connection to your self and learning about the different 'parts' that make up who you are. By understanding why the different parts of you think, feel, and act the way they do, you can extend compassion and help to transform and heal the parts of you that may be overprotecting you or hurting from past traumas and experiences.
While I have training and experience in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, I use these modalities as a supplement or a blend with IFS.
I believe in radical authenticity which means I show up as a human who is a therapist- not just a therapist. This principle means I strongly believe in compassion, genuine caring, and empathy in the (sometimes complex and messy) human experience. This also means I am open to feedback and questions about what is working or not working for you and so we can adjust to do what is most beneficial for you.
Cost
I am in-network with almost all Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) policies. The copay will vary depending on your plan. I will check with BCBS and let you know before we start therapy so you can have an estimation of what to pay.
If you have another insurance you'd like to use, I can provide what's called a 'superbill.' You would pay the self-pay rates and then once you file that with your insurance for out of network benefits, they can reimburse you for the services.
Self-Pay cost:
Initial Session (Assessment): $175
55-minute Psychotherapy Sessions: $160
I do offer some sliding-scale appointments.
You may contact me below to inquire if I have any available.
Next Steps
Seeking out therapy is a big step that takes a lot of courage! If you feel like we could be a good fit, then you can contact me down below and we will set up a free 15-30 minute initial consultation video-call. This is so I can hear about what you're looking for, share more about how I work, answer any questions you have, and see if we would be a good fit!
From there we can schedule our first appointment and I'll send you access to my patient portal to fill out some paperwork. Our first session is an assessment I do with everybody- this allows me to get more specific about what you're experiencing and how I may help and develop a treatment plan. Then we have our regular sessions!
